South Yorkshire Community Foundation have set up the South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Relief Fund, in conjunction with the four local authorities, Hallam FM and Yorkshire Bank, to alleviate the immediate hardship and suffering of the thousands of people in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield whose lives have been devastated by the floods.

Chief Executive of the Foundation, Pauline Grice said, 'The generosity of the general public and organisations such as Yorkshire Forward, Prosper De Mulder Ltd, Caroline Entertainments & UK Steel Enterprise has been amazing but we need to urge people to give more as the need for support will last 12-18 months.'

BBC Radio Sheffield Good Neighbour Appeal

BBC Radio Sheffield established the Good Neighbour Appeal in partnership with Community Service Volunteers, within days of the floods hitting South Yorkshire. As well as donating thousands of items of household furniture and equipment, listeners raised £80,381.60. The money is being used to help rebuild homes and communities in South Yorkshire. All funds raised went to the South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Relief Fund, coordinated by the South Yorkshire Community Foundation.

Gary Keown, Managing Editor of the BBC Radio Sheffield said:

"Our listeners have been incredible and I'd like to thank them for their generosity. They donated goods, time and money and demonstrated that we all live in a very caring part of the world, where neighbour looks after neighbour. Our Good Neighbour Appeal may now have closed, but listeners can still donate to the Flood Disaster Relief Fund through the South Yorkshire Community Foundation."

HSBC Bank Volunteer Fund

HSBC Bank have pledged £50,000 to support volunteering in South Yorkshire.  These funds will be used in conjunction with the BBC Radio Sheffield Good Neighbour Appeal to maximise the impact of volunteering.
