The Loscar Wind Farm Community Funds
WIND FARM operator REG Windpower has launched two charitable funds for communities close to the site of a new development.
REG Windpower operates renewable energy plants throughout the UK, with the Loscar wind project, based at Harthill, Rotherham, generating clean electricity since 2010.
The funding will support community initiatives that benefit Harthill, Woodall, Thorpe Salvin and Wales.
The two funds are:
1. The Loscar Wind Farm Community Fund
Through the Loscar Wind Farm Community Distribution Fund grants are available for projects and initiatives that educate, promote or implement:
- Sustainable use of energy and energy efficiency
- Sustainable use of other resources
- Reducing climate change
- Nature conservation
- Charitable environmental projects that address the needs of the local community.
Examples of activities the fund would support:
- Educational Projects within the local primary and secondary schools
- Free information events about domestic solar or wind power
- Projects to improve the energy efficiency of residents on low incomes
- Free practical workshops about composting methods
- Hedge restoration and wildflower planting schemes
How to apply?
The Loscar Wind Farm Community Distribution Fund is open for applications now.
Community groups are urged to submit their applications as soon as possible.

2. The Loscar Wind Farm Community Grassroots Endowment Fund
From April 2011 groups can also benefit from the Loscar Wind Farm Community Grassroots Endowment Fund, worth over £100,000.
How to apply?
The Loscar Wind Farm Community Grassroots Endowment Fund is one of the South Yorkshire Community Foundation's small grants funding pots.
To apply for a grant from this fund, go to the SYCF Small Grants Fund page and follow the instructions on How to Apply. When completing the form please state 'Loscar Wind Farm Community Grassroots Endowment Fund' on your application.
Community groups are urged to submit their applications as soon as possible.

Special note for Schools: Schools can apply for the Distribution Fund, but are not eligible for the Grassroots Endowment Fund. However Friends of Groups can apply for the Grassroots Endowment Fund, e.g. Friends of Harthill School.
