INFLUENTIAL figures throughout South Yorkshire will be in fine company to celebrate a great year for the South Yorkshire Community Foundation at an event hosted by the High Sheriff of South Yorkshire Giles Bloomer.
Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire David Moody, Barnsley Mayor Ken Sanderson and Chair of Doncaster Council Paul Coddington will be in attendance at the event held at the Cutlers Hall in Sheffield, at which Minister of State for the Department of Communities and Local Government John Healey will deliver the key address.
Since September 2008, the South Yorkshire Community Foundation has been delivering the Grassroots Grants programme throughout the region, and the event on Friday, April 3 will provide an opportunity to celebrate the work that has been done.
Pauline Grice, chief executive of SYCF, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for business leaders, philanthropists, politicians and community groups throughout the area to come together and recognise the progress behind made in South Yorkshire.
"The efforts that have been made in delivering the Grassroots Grants programme show just how generous and effective a support network is present in South Yorkshire."
Key speaker John Healey MP will address issues relating to how South Yorkshire can rise to the challenge of the changing needs in the regions communities, something that Grassroots Grants holds as a key aim.
Through the government funded Grassroots Grants programme, SYCF has been tasked with delivering more than £1.4 million in small grants throughout Barnsley, Rotherham and Sheffield before March 2011.
In addition South Yorkshire has been allocated £1.27 million, that will be used to match any donations from local givers on a pound for pound basis, creating a permanent fund of more than £2.5 million to make grants in South Yorkshire in the future.
Pauline added: "We are looking forward to welcoming organisations that have benefited from a Grassroots Grant, as well as many of the 'Founder Supporters' who have given to the endowment challenge already.
"The programme has already had a magnificent effect in strengthening and adding lasting value to local communities, and with the final deadline not being till March 2011 we are sure that there are more great things to come."
