Unsung heroes given massive boost by Rotherham United Community cash giveaway
8th April 2009
WORTHWHILE community projects throughout Rotherham have received a welcome boost, after the Rotherham United Community Cash Giveaway gave cash injections to twelve local groups.
Through the South Yorkshire Community Foundation' Grassroots Grants programme a bumper pot of £10,000 was made available exclusively to the Miller's supporters, aiming to help groups who work on shoestring budgets throughout Rotherham.
Grants ranging from £250 to £700 were awarded to twelve local projects throughout the region, with many different types of group successfully applying for a slice of the cash.
Pauline Grice, chief executive of SYCF, said: "We are delighted that so many fantastic groups have been able to get hold of some money through the Rotherham United Community Cash Giveaway.
"Small amounts of money can mean so much to groups that are volunteer led, and we hope this cash injection will give them the ability to push on with their work."
Of the twelve groups awarded a grant through the giveaway, eleven were making their first ever application to the South Yorkshire Community Foundation.
"Getting the word out through Rotherham United has enabled us to access so many worthwhile projects throughout the area, and extend the excellent benefits that our grant monies can have in local communities."
The funding has been made available through the Grassroots Grants programme funded by the Office of the Third Sector that aims to provide much needed support to small community groups that need it most.
The programme will run until March 2011, with groups enable to apply for a maximum of £5,000 before the programme ends.
